Public safety is one of my highest priorities. I am a strong advocate for our police officers, firefighters, and all public safety personnel, ensuring they have the compensation, benefits, training, and resources needed to serve our community effectively. During my time in leadership, I helped increase police officer salaries from 12th in the county to 6th, implemented referral bonuses and merit-based compensation initiatives to improve officer retention, and supported the addition of a full-time Downtown Security Ambassador. I also worked to strengthen the relationship between the City Council and the Martinez Police Officers Association (MPOA), making sure our officers know they are valued and supported. I support continued training in mental health response, substance abuse intervention, de-escalation techniques, and bias awareness. I also believe in reducing recidivism through rehabilitation and career training programs, including partnerships with union apprenticeship programs. I am committed to being a champion for all public safety personnel and helping keep Martinez a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

Addressing homelessness and mental health challenges requires both compassion and accountability. As the county seat, Martinez often sees individuals released from jail with limited support services. I have worked with CORE and other service providers to connect unhoused individuals with housing, treatment, and mental health resources, helping many get off the streets and into recovery programs. I also supported ordinances making illegal camping prohibited in public spaces, helping significantly reduce homelessness in the Marina and downtown areas. By partnering with social service agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations, we can continue providing pathways to stability while maintaining safe and welcoming public spaces for all residents.

Martinez's history, character, and local businesses are key to our community's identity and future growth. I support continued investment in our downtown, historic landmarks, and public spaces to make Martinez an attractive destination for residents and visitors alike. One of our most significant accomplishments has been the completion of asbestos abatement at the historic train depot. We allocated funding to remove all hazardous materials and put forward a clean structural foundation for restoration. The depot has now been put out to bid for restoration and repurposing, with several exciting concepts and proposals coming before the Council for consideration. I also support continued beautification efforts throughout the city, including our entry corridors and the Marina Vista exit, while encouraging investment in small businesses and projects that preserve Martinez's unique history and character.
